Cheapest Microchips Cats Dogs Microchipping & ID Tags Keep Cats & Dogs Safe!

Our veterinarians like to take the opportunity every April to remind our furry friends’ families of the importance of pet identification. To make sure that your cat or dog always finds their way home, our veterinary hospital offers affordable microchipping and identification tags.

Every year millions of pets become lost. Yet only 2% of lost cats and 15-20% of lost dogs ever are reunited with their owners. However, pets who are microchipped and wear a simple collar with tags, have a much greater likelihood of being returned home.

Why Your Dog or Cat Needs a Collar with Tags

Even if your pet has been microchipped, having a collar with tags is essential. If your cat or dog wanders off, it is usually a private person (not animal control or a veterinarian) who finds them first. If your pet has tags, the Good Samaritan who finds your dog or cat can call you immediately.

Many people are willing to make a phone call, but may not have the time or the ability to transport a lost pet to a vet or to animal control to find a chip-reader.

Additionally, if your pet is lost at night or on the weekend, animal control offices, shelters and veterinarians will likely be closed – making it impossible for the person who finds your pet to access a chip reading device.

That’s why, in the event of Fido or Fluffy becoming lost, identification tags are often your pet’s first ticket home.

Microchipping Cats & Dogs

Even if your pet wears a collar with tags, micro-chipping is essential! A collar can easily come off, leaving your pet without any form of identification. Providing your pets with both tags and a microchip can help ensure a happy reunion in the unfortunate event that they wander off or become separated from you.

Microchips are implanted just under a cat or dog’s skin, usually right between the shoulder blades. Thanks to modern technology, the microchip is not much bigger than a grain of rice! The microchip is inserted at your veterinarian’s office using syringe needle. The procedure is virtually painless and doesn’t require anesthesia.

Each microchip contains a unique registration number, as well as the phone number of the “registry” for that particular chip. An animal shelter or veterinarian has a handheld scanner that reads the radio frequency of the chip – and displays this information. They then contact the registry and get the name and phone number of the lost pet’s owner.

Despite loving pet owners’ best efforts, accidents can happen and pets become lost. A child or a visitor may leave a door ajar, wily dogs often dig under fences, and cats & dogs have been known to climb over enclosures. If your pet becomes lose and gets lost, chances are good that you’ll get them back if they are wearing a collar and identification tag, and have been microchipped!
