Responsible Pet Owners Spay or Neuter Their Animals!

As a responsible pet owner, it is important that you spay or neuter your cat or dog. Spayed or neutered pets are less likely to become lost - and are also less likely to experience various health and behavior problems. Additionally, 3 to 4 million unwanted pets are euthanized annually in the United States! Responsible pet owners should not contribute to the unwanted pet problem.

Sexually mature animals who have not been spayed or neutered are likely to try and roam far from home in order to satisfy their biological urge to mate. Dogs and cats who have been spayed (females) or neutered (males) are less likely to stray or try to “escape” from your home or yard in order to find a mate – meaning they are less likely to be lost or injured in an accident.

When to Have a Vet Spay or Neuter Your Dog or Cat Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance

Because of the health benefits of early spay – and the need to prevent unwanted pregnancy – early spay or neuter is optimal.  We use advanced techniques & very safe anesthetics that allow us to spay or neuter your pet as early as 4 1/2 months of age and a weight of 2 pounds. However, even dogs and cats who are much older can reap the health benefits of being spayed or neutered! Note: Dogs and cats over 7 years of age are required to have pre-surgical blood work done, to check liver and kidney function before using anesthesia.

If you have a cat, kitten, puppy or dog who is at least 4 months of age and weighs at least 2 or more pounds, please schedule a spay or neuter surgery as soon as possible. If your pet is older, please call our experienced veterinarians to discuss the best spay or neuter options for your older pet.
