Complete Cat & Dog Veterinarian Exams Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance Vet

los angeles veterinarianA thorough, annual head-to-tail examination is recommended to ensure that your cat or dog is healthy. Since your pet can not tell you when something is bothering them, they may go months or even years with pain or discomfort about which you are unaware, if they are not examined regularly! Annual physical exams help increase the odds that any health issues are discovered early and that your pet doesn’t suffer in silence. Early detection of health problems also results in a much better prognosis for easier treatment & rapid recovery. Annual physical exams also ensure that your pet’s vaccinations are up to date. Regular exams can add years to your cat or dog’s life!

Annual Pet Exams Lead to Prevention & Early Detection of Pet Health Issues

A physical exam includes taking the cat’s or dog’s temperature. A pet’s temperature will be higher than a human’s. Normal temperature for dogs and cats varies between 101 and 102.5 degrees. An elevated or subnormal temperature can be an indication of an underlying disease, health issue or infection that is not visible to the eye.

Veterinarian Exams: Heart & Lung Problems Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance Vet

A thorough physical pet exam also includes listening carefully to the lungs and the heart with a stethoscope. Heart rhythm and heart valve problems are unfortunately somewhat common in pets – especially dogs. Heart problems may be hidden from a pet owner, but can be detected by our veterinarians. Early detection means a better chance of recovery and a longer lifespan for your pet.

If anything suspicious in the lungs or heart is heard, our veterinarians can conduct a further work-up – often right here in our office – including: blood work, EKGs, X-rays and echocardiograms.

Veterinarian Exams: Kidney Disease, Cancer & Tumors Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne

We also thoroughly examine your cat or dog’s abdomen. Abnormalities of organs such as kidneys, spleen, liver, intestines, or bladder can be discovered by an abdominal exam. Diagnostic lab work, x-rays and other tests can be performed right in our office if anything appears amiss.

Veterinarian Dental Exams & Teeth Cleaning Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance Vet

A mouth and dental exam is also part of our routine physical exam. The mouth can harbor infected gums, loose teeth, objects stuck between teeth, tumors and many other problems that a pet may hide from their owner. A dental exam – and teeth cleaning if necessary – can greatly improve your pet’s quality of life and increase your cat or dog’s lifespan. Click here to learn more about pet dental health.

Veterinarian Eye Exams & Pet Ophthalmology Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance Vet

A close inspection of the cat or dog’s eyes and eyelids are also a part of the complete physical exam. Cataract formation may be detected in a routine pet exam. Changes to the cornea, iris, or other structures can be detected.

Cat & Dog Immunizations, Vaccines & Shots Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Hawthorne, Torrance Vet

Of course, every exam includes making sure that your pet’s immunizations are up to date. Many infectious diseases of dogs and cats can be prevented or limited with proper vaccinations.
